Beehive & White Rose of York Necklace Set - Silver

Our Skep Hive Charm Keeper Necklace is a layered world of history and treasure. At its heart is a beautifully textured beehive, originally a Belgian art medal and pendant titled Pour l’Avenir—“For the Future”—designed by the important Belgian sculptor and medallist Godefroid Devreese (1861–1941). The domed hive is a skep, an ancient form traditionally woven from wicker and later coiled straw. Used across medieval Europe, these wonderfully sculptural hives sheltered the bees that provided both precious honey and beeswax—treasures of daily life. In Greek mythology, bees became associated with divine abundance, prophecy and the mysteries of transformation. Across centuries and cultures, the hive has also come to symbolize community, shared purpose and the patient work of creating something meaningful for the future. This piece also includes an original antique sterling silver enameled White Rose of York charm, made by Deakin & Francis. The firm traces its origins to 1786 and is based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The third charm is a number 12 pocket watch key, a relic of the past where watch chains and pocket watches were statements of fashion and status. Using the ancient art of lost-wax casting, we have preserved every bee, ridge and beautifully timeworn detail in solid metal.
