Built to order in America, the Mercer Bumper Chaise by Stanley Furniture is the chaise with nothing in the way: 86 inches long, with a low padded bumper at the foot instead of an arm, so you can sit on it from the side, lie on it from either end, and walk past it without a corner to catch a hip. Joined to a Tux Corner Sofa or a One-Arm Sofa, it gives a sectional a long, open end that can float in the middle of a room, with the low back and base to the floor keeping the whole piece as one shape. Craftsman-built frame of kiln-dried hardwood, primarily solid alder, corner-blocked and reinforced with glue, staples and screws, so the curve stays true. Arched 8.5-gauge sinuous springs with double tie-wires deliver quiet, no-sag support in every seat. Seat and back cushions wrap a high-density foam core in a feather-locked envelope of Trillium gel-blown fiber: the softness of down, hypoallergenic and feather-free, so they soften in without going flat. At 86 inches it is the longest single piece in the collection, long enough for a tall person to lie flat.
