While the gold on the neck is a reference to the kintsugi-style gold restorations so favored by the early proponents of Japonisme, the finely chiseled decoration on the body directs our gaze towards the Levantine tradition, particularly Persian ceramics, which were themselves reinterpreted at the other end of the Asian continent.
