Georgian Ceylon Sapphire Basket Ring

This ring is among the finest Georgian basket rings we have ever acquired. An exceptional and highly unusual foiled Georgian Ceylon sapphire basket ring, it beautifully demonstrates the craftsmanship of the period. Remarkably, despite its foil-backed setting, the sapphire still displays an impressive colour change, a rare and desirable characteristic. The central octagonal-cut Ceylon sapphire weighs approximately 1.75 carats and is flanked by two tiny rose-cut diamonds, adding a delicate sparkle to the design. The ring is crafted in 18ct gold, with an elegant Georgian basket setting. A superb and increasingly scarce example of Georgian jewellery. Circa 1760–1780.
