Echinopsis pachanoi – San Pedro Cactus
Echinopsis pachanoi, commonly known as San Pedro Cactus, is a fast-growing columnar cactus prized for its impressive architectural form and striking blue-green stems. The upright ribbed columns develop into substantial multi-stemmed specimens over time, creating a bold vertical feature in the landscape. Its clean structural appearance and rapid growth make it one of the most popular ornamental columnar cacti for contemporary gardens. It performs best in full sun and free-draining soils and is highly suited to warm temperate, Mediterranean, coastal, and dry inland climates. Once established, San Pedro Cactus develops excellent drought tolerance and requires minimal maintenance. It is also more cold tolerant than many desert cacti and performs reliably across a wide range of Australian growing conditions. They look excellent when used as feature plants, architectural landscapes, succulent gardens, courtyards, and waterwise gardens where strong vertical structure is desired. Mature plants may produce large fragrant white flowers during the warmer months, further enhancing their ornamental appeal.
