Czech Art Deco Walnut Burl Extending Dining Table | Circa 1925–1935
An exceptional, rarely found architectural Czech Art Deco extending dining table dating to the interwar period, circa 1925–1935. This remarkable piece features an extraordinary walnut burl veneered top with dramatic mirrored figuring throughout the centre panel, framed by richly toned figured walnut extension leaves. The level of veneer work and construction quality places this table firmly within the luxury Central European functionalist movement of the early 20th century. Compact in form when closed at 90 x 90 cm, the table transforms through an ingenious original extension mechanism to approximately 170 cm in length, comfortably seating larger gatherings while retaining its sculptural presence and elegant proportions. Particularly striking are the solid cylindrical legs and beautifully engineered extension system — details strongly associated with Czech Functionalist and Art Deco furniture of the period. The table bears close stylistic similarities to pieces produced by UP Závody and the Halabala school during the 1920s–1930s. The condition is exceptional for its age, with the table remaining completely original and retaining its richly patinated finish, original hardware and mechanism. Pieces of this calibre rarely survive with such integrity. A sophisticated statement piece equally suited to Art Deco, modernist, contemporary or architectural interiors. Dimensions: 90 cm x 90 cm closed Extends to approximately 170 cm long Condition: Exceptional original vintage condition with beautifully aged patina and functioning original extension mechanism. Minor age-related wear consistent with nearly 100 years of use. Available to view by appointment in Wahroonga. Australia-wide delivery available.
