Around 1,600 BC, the ancient town of Akrotiri on the island of Thera (Santorini) was buried by an enormous volcanic eruption, preserving buildings and artifacts including decorative wall frescos. One work, known as The Flotilla Fresco, depicts ships sailing between islands and conveys the nature of the Aegean sea and the landscape of Thera prior to the disaster. Our design features an artistic rendering of the dolphins that leap and play freely throughout this amazing work.
