Kreisler - Liebesleid arr. viola/piano (Schott)
This adaptation of the three-part collection published in 1905 is based on Fritz Kreisler's original version and the later piano transcriptions by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This preserves the harmonies chromatic developments and counterpoint of the piano transcriptions. Original and transcription combine to create a virtuoso and effective solo piece. The typical three-fourteenth-stroke Vienna requires a certain barely noticeable freedom of tempo design without metronomic compulsion.
