Riley bought a Tricorn and realized such a unique hotend deserved a toolhead that could actually keep up with it. A few hard performance targets were set from the start. The obvious first choice was SLM aluminium: lightweight without sacrificing rigidity. The complete assembly, including all hardware, MGN12 carriage, and Tricorn, comes in at just under 350 g. Low mass only matters if it is distributed well. Peregrine's center of mass is near-perfect, and the resulting input shaper graphs reflect that. Designed Around Rigidity The SLM process allows the hotend to mount rigidly and directly beneath the carriage, keeping the moment arm between the nozzle and rail bearings as short as possible. During high-acceleration moves, when the system rotates around the X axis, this geometry helps minimize nozzle deflection. Combined with the balanced center of mass, Peregrine is designed to hold its geometry where it matters most. Micro-Bowden Extrusion Peregrine uses a micro-Bowden configuration — technically direct drive, but with intentional distance between the extruder and hotend. This gap acts as a buffer, helping smooth pressure-advance spikes and improve wall consistency compared with a conventional direct-drive layout. It also allows the nozzle to remain positioned directly beneath the carriage instead of being cantilevered out in front. WS9290-Optimized Part Cooling After extensive testing across outlet areas, flow rates, and air velocities using both WS7040 and WS9290 blowers, it became clear that simply installing a WS9290 into a duct designed around a WS7040 leaves significant performance on the table. Peregrine's cooling duct was designed specifically around the WS9290 to make better use of the blower's available airflow and pressure. Peregrine supports 19 mm ID CPAP hose. Compatibility Extruder Compatible with Sherpa Mini. Hotends Supports Tricorn and Chube without modification. Belt Paths Available for both Monolith and Voron belt paths. Rail Designed around an MGN12 carriage. Probe Offset Beacon / Cartographer offset: 23 mm. Nozzle Position The nozzle sits 70 mm from the bottom face of the MGN12 carriage.
