Domenico Clerico, Barbera d’Alba Trevigne, 2022
A benchmark for modern Barbera, Trevigne predates the current revival by three decades—first released in 1989 when Domenico Clerico was pioneering single-cru wines from Monforte d'Alba. The wine blends fruit from three distinct vineyard parcels in Ginestra and Bricco San Pietro, creating what Clerico called "an orchestra playing on notes of red fruit." The 50/50 split between barrique and large oak softens Barbera's natural acidity without overwhelming its character. The 2022 delivers vibrant red cherry and plum with mocha, spice, and leather accents—a wine of terrific balance and creamy mouthfeel. Ready now with charcuterie or risotto; will develop further for 5-7 years.
