These mixed metal flower stud earrings combine warm 9ct gold bonded with sterling silver in a softly sculptural floral design. Handmade and subtly mismatched in size, they balance playful simplicity with the rich glow of real bonded gold. These gold and silver flower stud earrings began life over a decade ago as components intended for an elaborate jewellery design that Simone eventually retired from her range. Although the original design disappeared, these partly finished flower forms remained sitting in a dish on her workbench for years - already hand-cut and formed, quietly waiting to become something else. The From The Archives range finally became the excuse needed to complete them as a pair of understated but distinctive stud earrings. The flowers are handmade from an unusual mechanically bonded sterling silver and 9ct gold metal. Rather than plating or vermeil, the bonded metal uses a genuine layer of real 9ct gold permanently bonded to sterling silver using a process similar to gold-filled metal. The result gives the earrings the warmth and richness of real gold at the front while retaining sterling silver against the skin and on the reverse side. Simone has long loved working with mixed metals, and this material offered a way to combine the beauty of gold with the practicality and wearability of sterling silver. The flowers themselves are intentionally simple and stylised rather than botanical in a realistic sense. Their softly curved petals catch the light beautifully against the polished gold surface, while the slightly mismatched sizing gives the pair a relaxed handmade balance. The earrings are finished with handmade sterling silver posts and sterling silver earring backs for comfortable everyday wear.
