Willingness to do a little homework between sessions on side rows IF student is a slow weaver This is a traditional market basket that is perfect for filling with birthday, shower or other goodies. Woven over a plain base, it has two swing handles to make it easy to put your items inside. Learn how to shape a rectangular basket that becomes an oval shape with straight sides; how to insert handles and how to lash around handles. Choice of color on the trim rows – blue/green; red/orange, all one color Materials supplied: Flat reed, flat oval reed, sea grass rim filler, lasher, dyed or natural flat oval reed for trim rows, handles and a few clothespins and cable ties. Tools needed: Table space large enough to lay out the wet spokes (initially 20″x 20″) Pencil Sturdy scissors for cutting the reed Measuring tape Container for water to soak reed – I use a dishpan Spoke weight or weight such as a can of soup for holding down the spokes while weaving the base of the basket (optional) A few extra clothespins if you have them (optional) A rasp or scraper if you have one
