The Wetlands Of The Namoi River People In The Moonlight
The wetlands of the Namoi River People, the Guinbray Clan, of the Gamilaraay Nation, shine in the moonlight. The moon and the owl are some of the special totems of the clan, and so the land responds to the totems. The owl looks down upon the land. Throughout this special Country, over many succeeding generations, the People have made their campsites. The middens are there, permanent mounds. The passing gunyas of the people, with their earth ovens lasting only one turn or less of the seasons, shine in the light also. Their tracks, trodden by untold generations of the People, crisscross the wetlands. The People’s lives continue day by day to the heartbeat of the seasons of the land. The different landforms reflect different shades and colours. This is my Country. These are among my totems.
