This is our new premium 5mm range — genuinely thicker, noticeably heavier in the hand, and more resistant to splitting under everyday handling than our original 3mm bamboo, for a small price premium. It's the one we use ourselves day-to-day, and the extra thickness is genuinely noticeable. Why does thickness matter for bamboo? Bamboo is genuinely strong along its fibres but can be prone to splitting if real pressure is applied across the grain — a well-documented property of the material, not a manufacturing defect. A thicker cross-section gives a crack more material to work through before it can propagate, meaningfully improving resistance to this specific failure mode.
