Moeris is one of those largely forgotten Swiss manufactures whose historical importance is considerably greater than its present-day recognition suggests. Founded in Saint-Imier in 1893 by watchmakers Fritz Moeri and Albert Jeanneret as Moeri & Jeanneret. The Moeris trademark was registered in 1901, and the manufacture subsequently developed a substantial range of its own movements, from relatively small wristwatch calibers to large 19-ligne pocket-watch movements. Moeris also produced chronographs and stopwatches, drawing on Fritz Moeri's earlier work in chronograph mechanisms. The quality of its watches earned the company numerous awards at Swiss and international exhibitions, including a Grand Prix at the 1914 Bern Exhibition. Like many independent Swiss manufacturers, Moeris struggled as the industry consolidated during the 1960s and 1970s. Its later corporate history becomes somewhat complicated. Contemporary research indicates that by the 1970s Moeris had become associated with Rayville, the company connected with Blancpain, and subsequently entered the SSIH sphere that included Omega and Tissot. The original Fabrique des Montres Moeris disappeared as a corporate entity in 1979. Model: MOERIS Year of Manufacture: 1940s Material: 18k gold caped and steel.
