VENUS (Original)

Venus is a figurative sculpture by Lucy Unwin, hand carved from Statuary Carrara marble. The classical female form is reinterpreted through a contemporary composition, with the torso partially wrapped in flowing drapery carved directly into the stone. The contrast between the smooth contours of the body and the deeply carved folds creates movement across the surface, while the natural character and subtle markings of the Carrara marble remain visible throughout. Viewed from different angles, the drapery moves across and around the figure, revealing the quality and precision of Lucy's stone carving. Standing 75cm high and weighing 80kg, Venus combines the permanence and tradition of marble with a clean contemporary approach to the human form.
