The Yankee Clipper - SEA GIRT - Short-Sleeve Unisex T-Shirt

Sea Girt's beachfront hangout, right at the end of Chicago Boulevard. The Yankee Clipper opened in 1972 on the sand where the 90-year-old Tremont Hotel had stood, put up by big band leader Gus Steck after he took the old hotel down. Upstairs was the Surf Room, navy blue, a ship's wheel over the bar, mirrors on the walls and the Atlantic out the window. Downstairs at beach level sat the Sand Bar, close enough that you could order a drink without fully drying off. Live music most nights, packed all summer, and enough noise, parking and underage-drinking complaints to keep the neighbors writing letters. The Clipper poured its last in 1997. The property went to auction and a private house stands there now. The shirt is the last round.The blank runs heavy: ring-spun cotton, 4.5 ounces, twice-stitched at neck and sleeve, taped shoulder to shoulder.
