Born from the easy silhouette of our Lia Dress, the Carlota Dress is its slightly more refined sister—familiar in spirit, but made with a little more ceremony. Rendered in our autumnal Colchester Plaid, Carlota features a softly scooped neckline framed by petite self-fabric ruffles at the shoulders, creating the suggestion of a delicate cap sleeve. Rows of released pintucks lend quiet detail to the bodice before opening into a long, fluid skirt, while self ties at the waist allow the silhouette to be gently shaped. Finished with a generous ruffled hem and, always, hidden pockets, Carlota is an easy dress made to feel just a little dressed up. Inspiration: Colchester Plaid is a large-scale check of deep navy, muted rust red, white, and touches of coppery orange. Its name comes from Colchester, Vermont—the small town where my aunts lived when I first immigrated to the United States—while the generous scale of the plaid was inspired by 19th-century photographs of women and children in the Philippines dressed in traditional village clothing. A meeting of two places from my own history, translated into cloth.
