Late 19th Century Ebonised Occasional Table with Amboyna Top
A late 19th-century ebonised and gilt occasional table, the original octagonal top inset with a richly figured amboyna veneer. Amboyna was a highly prized decorative timber in the 19th century, valued for its dense burr figuring and warm golden-orange colour. Here it sits within an ebonised border with gilt foliate decoration, giving the table a strong late Victorian, Aesthetic Movement feel. The base is finely turned, with four slender supports, shaped swept legs, brass castors and a turned central stretcher with a small finial. The finish appears original, with wear, rubbing and marks consistent with age. Circa 1880. Diameter 60cm x Height 66cm. Diameter 2′0″, Height 2′2″.
