1842 Pattern U.S. Socket Bayonet This U.S. Model 1842 socket bayonet measures approximately 20¾ inches overall and presents with an attractive deep brown patina throughout the steel surfaces. The flat area at the base of the blade, just below the socket, is clearly stamped “U.S.” The locking ring is no longer present, but the bayonet retains the characteristics of an early production example. The base of the blade where it joins the socket features the early form with distinct squared shoulders and corners, a desirable detail for collectors of early U.S. military accoutrements. The bayonet displays an even aged appearance with untouched surfaces and honest wear consistent with its age and service. A solid example of the standard bayonet used with the U.S. Model 1842 musket and other .69 caliber arms of the mid-19th century.
