Rosso Toscana IGT, Malgiacca 2022

Malgiacca is a small artisan estate in Lucchesia, Tuscany, founded by a group of friends united by a desire to preserve the character of traditional Tuscan vineyards through thoughtful, low intervention winemaking. Working across organically farmed parcels around Lucca, the estate focuses on biodiversity, healthy soils and expressing the individuality of each site. Their approach is rooted in respect for old vines and local varieties, with spontaneous fermentations, minimal sulphur and gentle cellar practices designed to retain freshness, energy and a true sense of place. Rosso Toscana IGT is a more structured expression of Malgiacca’s vineyards, showcasing the diversity of traditional Tuscan varieties through a precise yet natural approach. Sourced from organically farmed parcels around Lucca, the wine is rooted in the estate’s mineral rich Villafranchiano soils and reflects the cooler, greener character of western Tuscany rather than the warmer inland zones. Hand harvested grapes are fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in small vats before ageing in a combination of neutral vessels, used wood and amphora, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to remain at the forefront. Dark cherry, blackberry and plum are layered with violet, Mediterranean herbs, earthy spice and a subtle savoury complexity. The palate is vibrant and finely structured, combining supple tannins, bright acidity and a mineral finish that gives the wine both freshness and depth.
