Clear Plastic Tarp
See-through weather protection for the jobs that do not need a heavy tarp. At 0.12 mm (about 5 mil) this is the lightest sheet in our clear range: easy to handle on your own, quick to fold, and light enough to lay over plants and furniture without crushing them. Light passes straight through, so it protects without shutting anything into the dark. What you can use it for Frost and freeze protection. Drape over beds, shrubs, potted plants and citrus ahead of a cold night. Daylight still gets through, so it can stay on through a cold snap. Cold frames, mini tunnels and hoop covers. Seasonal glazing for propagation and early sowings. Greenhouse repairs. Cover a broken pane or close a gap until you re-glaze. Garden furniture, cushions, BBQs and bikes. You can see what is underneath without lifting the cover. Firewood, tools and garden equipment. Short-term rain cover. Broken windows and doors. Emergency weather seal after breakage or during works. Market stalls, gazebos and events. Rain protection that keeps your display visible. Poultry runs, hutches and kennels. A clear wind panel that does not make the run gloomy. Decorating and light indoor work. A see-through dust sheet. Lightweight, not flimsy Thin does not have to mean weak. On cheap clear sheeting the failure point is always the edge: an unfinished cut tears from a tie-down point and runs straight across the sheet. This tarp is finished on all four sides with a flat woven binding, welded to the sheet and carrying every eyelet. Tension goes into the binding band rather than into the film, so a tug at one eyelet does not start a tear across the panel. The binding also stops the edge stretching and fraying, which is what turns a one-season tarp into a two-season one. Eyelets every 20in (50 cm) Metal eyelets are set through the binding every 20 in (50 cm) around all four sides, with reinforcement at every corner. Most light-duty clear sheeting is spaced at 90 cm (36 in) or wider. Closer spacing does three things: each eyelet carries less load, the sheet pulls flat instead of rippling between fixings, and you get far more tie-down points to work with on an irregular frame, a hoop, or a run of railing. Choosing the right weight This is a light-duty, seasonal cover, and we would rather you bought the right tarp than the cheapest one. It is not built for a full year of unbroken sun, for exposed high-wind sites, or for snow load. If you are covering something permanently, enclosing a patio or pergola, or working on an exposed site, move up to our clear string-reinforced PE tarp or one of our clear PVC tarps. Getting the most from it Pitch it so water runs off. Standing water is what stretches a light tarp and pulls out eyelets. Secure it with ball bungees rather than tight rope, so the sheet can flex in a gust instead of straining against a fixed point. Use every eyelet on an exposed side. Skipping fixings concentrates load on the ones you did use. Dry it before folding, and store it out of direct sunlight.
