Curt Valentin was a controversial German-Jewish art dealer who was dismissed from his job in Germany in 1936 and emigrated to America where, in September 1937, he opened the Buchholz Gallery in New York City. He was known for handling modern art and works classified as ‘degenerate’ which were seized from public museums or looted from private collectors by the Nazi regime. He acted as dealer for John Piper’s art work in the immediate post-war years, his gallery holding exhibitions between 1948 and 1955, when the demand for original art in England was depressed during the Austerity years. This is an original 31 page exhibition catalogue in very good condition listing all the works on display from the 1955 show, it includes numerous black and white illustrations and a preface by S.John Woods. More images can be provided on request. Author: Curt Valentin (1902 – 1954) Title and date: Exhibition Catalogue, Curt Valentin Gallery, John Piper, February 15-March 12 1955. Size: 17.0 x 12.0 cms.
