A Summer Afternoon at The Palette Creperie | Monhegan Island Watercolor (11" x 14")
One of my favorite stops on Monhegan Island is the Palette Creperie—a place where art, conversation, and the slower rhythm of island life come together. In this 11" x 14" watercolor, I wanted to capture more than just the building. The challenge was painting the feeling of a warm summer day: visitors gathering under umbrellas, artists and hikers stopping for lunch, the brilliant blue food truck glowing in the sunlight, and the beautiful chaos of people enjoying one of Maine's most beloved islands. Rather than painting every detail, I focused on light, atmosphere, and expressive brushwork to suggest the scene while letting the watercolor do what it does best. If you've ever visited Monhegan Island, I'd love to hear your favorite memory in the comments.
