1920s Boxed Cuebridge By Spear's Games. A Novel Bridge And Cue Children's Game
1920s Boxed Cuebridge By Spear's Games. A Novel Bridge And Cue Children's Game This wonderful rare table top toy is a 1920s Boxed Cuebridge By Spear's Games. A Novel Bridge And Cue Children's Game made by the firm JW Spear & Son at The Spears Works, Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany but designed in England. Approximate Box Size (WHD):- 28.4 x 9.4 x 4 cm There are a few scuffs on the box and the clay balls have also discoloured, as would be expected with something of this age. The blue ball is missing but otherwise the game is intact and complete. An original version of the game, both the bridge and box are made from cardboard with wood cross struts on the bridge to enable it to stand alone. The bridge has three arches with children and toys peering over the edge. It's very cute with fantastic colours. In later versions, the bridge was made from wood and had five arches. The clay balls are slightly larger than marbles. The aim of the game is for the players to hand roll the balls, or hit them with the wooden cue, through the arches of the bridge to score points. Each arch and coloured ball represents a different score. The full instructions are printed inside the box lid. This game is being sold as a collectable, for display only, as you are most likely to find it in a museum. It represents a lovely piece of history and, at approximately 100 years old, it's amazing it has survived in such lovely condition! Please click on the following link for more vintage toys and games.
