Dynamic load is the load while driving. Wind, vibration, braking, cornering, and off road impacts increase forces significantly, so loads should be reduced for off road use and must remain within the vehicle manufacturer’s stated limits. Static load is the load when parked, such as when using a roof top tent. Static capacity may be higher than dynamic capacity, but this varies by vehicle and must still comply with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
