2021 Mencia & Alicante Bouschet, Adega O Cabalin, Galica

From the rugged, green hills of Galicia in northwest Spain, Adega O Cabalín’s 2021 Mencía & Alicante Bouschet is a vivid reflection of Atlantic-influenced terroir, where steep slate and quartz soils and high-altitude vineyards bring freshness and mineral tension. This small, low-intervention producer focuses on field blends, typically led by Mencía with Alicante Bouschet adding depth and colour, alongside minor native varieties. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for around 12 months in oak, the 2021 vintage shows finesse and balance. Expect bright red and black fruits, floral lift, spice and fine tannins. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, grilled meats or earthy mushroom dishes.
