Calathea makoyana carries oval leaves patterned with alternating bands of dark and pale green above, backed by a deep maroon-purple underneath. The fine tracery of markings has earned it the common name peacock plant, and the leaves lift and fold gently through the day as light levels change.Give it bright indirect light and steady warmth, away from cold draughts or the dry air near heaters. Keep the mix lightly moist rather than letting it dry out, and rainwater or filtered water will help stop the leaf tips browning if your tap water is hard.
