Glass Shard JFET MK3 - Vintage 60s Germanium Fuzz into Mythical Drive
This pedal is a pure work of art. Arguably one of the most soulful and beautifully built pedals I offer. It combines two mojo/soul invigorating circuits in one box. It is an all through hole (and made with premium components) Glass Shard and a MK3 tonebender with a post jfet boost, for extra volume and thickness. The glass shard is a twilight tuned/modded "K" style overdrive. Known for its glassy, high headroom, high output, smooth singing crystal like sustain, this is my favorite overdrive. If I was forced to use only one overdrive for the rest of my life, this would be the one. I love it as a clean boost- with the gain down and the volume up, it enhances and enrichens every little dynamic and texture your guitar and amp have to offer. It feels like upgrading your amp to 4D, you hear all these small nuances that were previously hidden with this circuit. Once it's on, you will never want it off. It also works wonders to do that fuzz tightening that people often use the tube screamer for- taming dirt boxes that are flubby, loose, and not incredibly articulate. This circuit tightens up low end and gives a more note defined gain structure that allows your melodies and rhythms to strike clearly- not become lost in a mush of fuzz. This circuit also excels at pushing amps into high gain metal like distortion- crank your amps preamp, crank the shards volume and gain, and you have a tight metal friendly distortion that sounds more like your amp and less like a pedal. Now, the germanium fuzz side. Painstakingly tuned, this side uses 3 germanium transistors that are auditioned in circuit, with only the best trio selected and permanently soldered to the circuit. This process also ensures you get a sound/feel that is completely unique to this unit. No two come out the same. I believe this fuzz stands out with its incredible dynamics and chord sustain roar. This fuzz circuit has wonderful bloom that is controlled by pick attack- if you are not familiar with bloom, let me convey it the best I can in words. Bloom is a very sought after characteristics that is exemplified in the tonebender MK1-MK3 series. It essentially is the circuit swelling into a short compression when hitting the guitar strings hard, then blooming into its full note when sustaining the note or chord, like a flower blooming into its full, final result. This feature also is controlled by the guitars volume knob- if you want very dynamic blooming, keep the guitar volume max. If you desire tighter fuzz with no blooming, simply dial it back until it disappears and you will notice a brighter sound, and no compression. The MK3 just roars. It is like all the pure rock and roll energy from the 70s trapped in a box, just waiting to be released at the stomp of a switch. It begs to be fed large chords, sent into massive wattage amplifiers and huge cabinets. It will drive you to summon your inner rockstar, visualizing and stepping into what it felt like to be a true rockstars during the peak era of rock n roll. When playing this unit, I can vividly feel myself living through a rock gig at the whiskey a go go at the height of its glory. These two come together to make, the ultimate drive combo that will have you wondering where this sound has been your entire life. Wired in series input-mk3-shard-output
