The Art of Polo
Title: The Art of Polo Size: 35x35 in. (89x89 cm.) Year: 2026 Location: West Palm Beach, FL, USA Medium: Acrylic on silk AVAILABLE The Art of Polo: A Global Game, Illustrated Painted on a rare vintage Hermès silk scarf from the late 1980s, The Art of Polo captures the elegance, movement, and international reach of one of the world’s most storied sports. Illustrated scenes unfold like pages from a sketchbook, depicting players, ponies, and techniques across iconic polo destinations including Paris, Argentina, and Palm Beach. Mounted and framed by me, the work bridges fashion, sport, and fine art into a singular, presentation-driven statement. Inside the Art: The Story Behind The Art of Polo The Art of Polo is built around an uncommon foundation: a vintage Hermès silk scarf, one of only a few polo-themed designs ever produced by the house. Released in the late 1980s, the scarf features hand-drawn illustrations of the sport as it is played around the world, each vignette offering a different perspective on polo’s rhythm, technique, and tradition. The composition reads like a collection of torn sketchbook pages, unified by a refined palette of navy, teal, beige, and brown. On top of the scarf, two players and ponies appear mid-action, one following through after striking the ball, capturing both precision and momentum. The scene brings to life the highly technical elements of the sport illustrated in the scarf design. For the original work, the silk scarf is mounted to a wood panel handmade by me, preserving the integrity of the fabric while giving it physical presence. A color-matched deep navy floater frame surrounds the piece, intentionally designed to highlight the scarf’s hand-rolled edge and elevate its presentation as a finished artwork rather than a textile alone. The result is a rare intersection of fashion history and contemporary painting, where material, subject, and craftsmanship carry equal weight. The Art of Polo speaks to collectors who appreciate sport not only as competition, but as culture, tradition, and design.
