Fretwork Fine Squares Silver Dangle Earrings

These delicate yet striking Fine Fretwork Squares Silver Dangle Earrings were originally handmade around 20 years ago for a jewellery exhibition exploring decorative historical metalwork forms. They are a one-of-a-kind design. The intricately pierced sterling silver panels were inspired by Victorian-era illustrations of ornamental metalwork. Simone selected the designs because of their strong connection to traditional hand-crafted metalworking techniques and decorative arts traditions. Each square panel has been entirely saw-pierced by hand in sterling silver before being softly domed inwards to create depth and movement. Compared with the denser companion pair in the archive collection, these earrings have a lighter, more open fretwork pattern with a lace-like quality. The earrings originally existed as exhibition necklace components rather than commercial jewellery pieces. For the From the Archives collection, Simone transformed the original panels into this one-of-a-kind pair of dangle earrings. The fretwork intentionally retains a distinctly handmade character. Slight irregularities in the lines, together with subtle sanding and saw marks, reveal the considerable hand labour behind the finished design. The earrings have been polished to a bright sterling silver finish and are suspended from handmade sterling silver ear wires. Although visually intricate, the earrings remain lightweight and comfortable to wear. Their smaller scale and open fretwork make them especially versatile statement earrings for both casual and dressier outfits.
