Presented is an antique sterling silver handled basket made during the Georgian era, circa 1790. This is a beautiful piece featuring bright cut engraving in a wide band near the top edge with further bright cut engraving along the bottom foot of the basket. A small crest of a dog or cat's head is featured on the base. The interior of the basket has a bright gold wash that is still intact and has not worn off. On the underside of the basket is a full set of English hallmarks. These include the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the duty mark of King George III's head, the date letter p corresponding to the year 1790, and a maker's mark of B M. There is also an additional lion passant hallmark at the top of the handle. The maximum height to the top of the handle when extended is 6 3/4 inches. The highest point on the basket itself is 4 1/2 inches, and the dimension at the top of the basket is 6 inches by 4 inches. Condition: The overall condition is excellent.
