Yellow Pigeon Discus
The yellow pigeon discus (Symphysodon sp.) is a yellow expression of the pigeon blood lines, showing warm yellow through the body with the darker markings of pigeon breeding held back. As with other pigeon-derived discus, black peppering can appear across the flanks and varies with stress, lighting and how dark the tank is, so the same fish can look cleaner or busier depending on the day. Discus originate in the warm, slow waters of the Amazon basin. Aquarium care Tall aquarium with real depth front to back. Warm water near the upper end of the tropical range, kept stable. Frequent partial water changes and modest stocking levels. Keep five or more, or an established pair. Discus granules, frozen bloodworm and beefheart preparations, fed at a slow pace. A calm tank with subdued lighting helps limit peppering. Suits a keeper who wants warm colour without heavy patterning and accepts that pigeon lines change appearance with condition. Cardinal tetras, rummy nose tetras and sterbai corydoras make sensible companions; keep pushy or fast-feeding fish out. Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the discus collection for current fish.
