Startle Daylily

Startle Daylily 'Startle' daylily is a striking beauty with a unique claim to fame: it is heralded as the first and best red daylily with a gold edge. Spectacular! This beautiful bicolor daylily has large 5" blooms with an unusual coloration: Deep cherry red petals with lighter red sepals are surrounded by a prominent gold edge. These gorgeous blooms are easily seen on scapes that reach 26" tall in our East Tennesse garden. As a mid season bloomer, we first see the stunning blooms of Startle around the middle of June. If you live to our north, you'll see them a bit after we do. If you live to our south, you'll get to see them a couple of weeks before us. Startle is a dormant daylily. This means it is best grown in areas that receive a sustained winter cold period, like those in zones 8 and lower.
