Grasslands Soft Brome

15 x 15 cm Hand painted in Delft navy blue, these serene designs are painted over two 15cm x 15cm Cornish White tiles. Soft brome is a tall grass and one of the first to flower in late spring, making it an early source of seeds and habitat within grasslands. It gets its name for the softly hairy leaves and velvety seed heads which give it a tactile appearance. Long grasses form biodiverse habitats which supports a huge variety of wildlife, providing food and shelter for insects such as moths, grasshoppers and bees, as well as many other small animals. Far more than a simple patch of grass, they are thriving ecosystems full of life and an integral part of our living world. We pass them on our walks, drive past them on roadside verges and explore them in our free time, where they provide a beautiful backdrop to our everyday lives.
