Little Brown Dog Strathmill 2015
Strathmill, tucked away at the side of the road in Keith, it might seem pretty anonymous. There do seem to be a lot of rumours about the distillery being largely mothballed locally despite its importance in the J&B recipe. Anyway, focussing on the distillate, LBD chose to bottle this cask because it’s just wonderfully rounded. An LBD style of sherry rather than a full on smack about the chops, it’s well integrated, clean and very drinkable. An American oak, cream sherry hogshead making for a more subtle style of sherry and something we are really into. As with all of their small batch and single cask releases it’s bottled at cask strength, natural colour and non chill filtered. The label is a nod to the pied wagtail of the F&F series, whiskies that really brought many whisky drinkers their first tastes of some classic distillates as single malts.
