In 2005, the talented Frenchman François Danis created the first of his three versions: Wandering Mummy (2005), Wandering Mummy II (2007) and most recently his adorable Mini Wandering Mummy (2017). François also created an effect based on Dr. Weyeneth’s “Vanishing Mummy” called The Cat of Raskhenotep (2009). This set of mummies is one of the best I’ve used for actual performance. The base insert that holds the mummies makes the routine run smoothly, and if you perform the standard routine this set works exactly as intended. It looks great in performance, and while Tony Lackner’s version is still commonly sought after, François’s edition is a very worthy contender. Eddy Taytelbaum’s version remains the gold standard for this effect. The set was created in 2012 and is very similar to the first edition from 2007, with a couple of small changes: Lid: now a loose fit instead of hinged with a clasp Handle: the pull-out handle for the sarcophagus has been removed Neither change significantly affects performance; I suspect they were made to streamline production. Overall, this is one of François’s best releases and it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Great job, François 🙂 _EF Two sarcophagi are shown. One has a mummy inside, the other does not. The story revolves around the way the Egyptians used to guard against ‘grave robbers’ which were prevalent at that time. The mummy is placed into one sarcophagus and the lid closed; When the grave robbers broke into the sarcophagus for the Pharaoh’s treasure which was always buried with him, they found nothing … and left empty-handed. The mummy was of course safe and sound in the other sarcophagus! (Click here for more history about The Wandering Mummy)
