Freda scarf - Grey weft
'Freda' is the first 2026 scarf in our 'Herstory' collection. This is for the grey colour, please see image 2 for a close up. 100% spun silk, dry clean only. Woven dimensions approximately 50cm x 150cm. Wound, warped and woven at the Mill by our heritage silk weavers using our working collection of historic machinery, before being finished by hand in house. Inspired by a design in our archive, this bold and lively design offers warm tones with crisp stripes of lime. Geometric patterns run across the weft, making these scarves a playful yet luxurious show stopper. A warp and weft of spun silk for a soft and durable end product. Named after Freda Baker, an employee at Stephen Walters from 1962 who worked in the accounts department, liaising with Whitchurch Silk Mill on a regular basis and making deliveries to the Mill from time to time. During an interview with Freda in 2004, she reflected on Whitchurch Silk Mill's distinctive character as a place of colour and craftsmanship. She also recalled beautifully coloured fabrics, short production runs and the Mill's friendly atmosphere.
