Beconase is a steroid (corticosteroid) nasal spray. Its active ingredient, beclometasone dipropionate, has an anti-inflammatory action inside the nose. Unlike antihistamine tablets, it works directly on the lining of the nose to calm the inflammation that allergens such as pollen, dust or pet dander trigger during an allergic reaction. Once your symptoms improve, you may be able to reduce to one spray into each nostril morning and evening. Do not use more than eight sprays in one day. Shake the bottle gently before each use. If it is new, or you have not used it for 7 days, prime it: press the pump a few times until a fine mist appears. Gently blow your nose to clear it. Close one nostril, insert the nozzle into the other, and spray while breathing in gently through your nose. Repeat in the other nostril. Use only in the nose — do not spray in the eyes. How long it takes to work: Beconase is not an instant treatment. It starts reducing inflammation soon after use, but it can take 2 to 3 days of regular use to build up to its full effect.
