Nitrate Removal Resin - ResinTech SIR-100-HP (1 cu ft)
Nitrate Removal Resin - ResinTech SIR-100-HP (1 Cubic Foot) SIR-100-HP is a nitrate removal resin: a nitrate-selective macroporous strong base anion resin in chloride form (styrene/DVB), supplied as 16-50 US mesh beads. The HP designation means the resin is WQA Gold Seal certified for potable water, so the media itself has been third-party verified safe for drinking water service. It removes nitrate and nitrite, and also has strong affinity for perchlorate. This is the exact media inside our whole-house nitrate systems: the 6 GPM system (1.5 cu ft), the 10 GPM system (2.5 cu ft), and the Fleck 5600SXT nitrate filter (1.5 cu ft). The 1 cubic foot bag is for owners rebedding one of those tanks, and for DIY builders loading a custom nitrate system who want certified, nitrate-selective resin rather than generic bulk media. New to nitrate treatment? Start with our guide to nitrates in well water. Why Nitrate-Selective Matters Generic type 1 and type 2 anion resins prefer sulfate over nitrate. Once those beds load up with sulfate, they can dump previously captured nitrate back into your water, sometimes above source levels, with no warning. SIR-100-HP's amine functional group is engineered to prefer nitrate: no nitrate dumping, even past the sulfate break, plus higher operating capacity and lower leakage than conventional anion resin. High sulfate still reduces working capacity, so confirm sizing on high-sulfate wells by phone with your water test. Regenerable With Ordinary Softener Salt Unlike single-use media, SIR-100-HP regenerates with a sodium chloride brine: ordinary water softener salt at a dose greater than 10 lbs per cubic foot, with at least 30 minutes of brine contact. Each regeneration flushes the captured nitrate to the drain and restores the bed, cycle after cycle, for years. On hard water, use softened or low-hardness water for brine makeup to avoid calcium carbonate scaling in the brine system. Sizing and Loading 10" x 54" tank holds 1.5 cu ft - 2 bags (our 6 GPM system and the Fleck 5600SXT nitrate filter). 13" x 54" tank holds 2.5 cu ft - 3 bags (our 10 GPM system). Minimum bed depth 24 inches - shallower beds short-circuit and leak early. Service flow 1-4 gpm per cubic foot - slower flow means more contact time and better capture. Operating range - pH 4-10, max continuous temperature 170 F, total capacity 1.0 meq/mL, backwash expansion 25-50%, ship weight ~41 lbs per cubic foot. Pre-treatment required - sediment, iron, and hardness must be handled upstream or they foul the bed. Test First, Then Size Nitrate is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, so both the initial sizing and the annual performance check come from a lab test. If you have not confirmed your levels yet, start with the well water test kit (certified lab, 53 contaminants including nitrate, nitrite, and sulfate). Then call or text Aidan at 800-460-5810 with your numbers and your tank size, and he will confirm the resin volume and regeneration settings before you order.
