The Milky Way, Reconstructed from Gaia This fine art print presents the Milky Way in an all-sky view, reconstructed from data collected by ESA’s Gaia mission, one of the most ambitious astronomical surveys ever created. Gaia measures the positions, brightness, distances, and motions of stars across the sky, allowing scientists to study the structure and evolution of our galaxy with extraordinary precision. To create this artwork, Adam Jesionkiewicz developed a dedicated processing workflow that transforms Gaia’s scientific data into a visually refined image of the entire visible Milky Way. Unlike a traditional astrophotograph, this is a data-driven reconstruction of our galaxy, shaped through careful processing, rendering, and color grading to reveal its vast stellar structure, dark dust lanes, and luminous galactic core. The result is a rare fusion of science and art: a museum-quality visualization of the Milky Way, created from revolutionary space-mission data and refined with the eye of an astrophotographer.
