Pear is created through a traditional sculptural process, with each bronze beginning as a clay original shaped by hand until the proportions and balance feel resolved. From this, a plaster negative and hard plaster positive are produced, allowing the surface to be refined with precision. Parker works back into the dense plaster form, gradually achieving a smooth, almost glass-like finish. The stalk is formed separately, carved from timber using a natural wooden branch, adding a subtle organic counterpoint to the refined body of the sculpture. Depending on scale, smaller editions are cast using the lost-wax process, while larger works are sand cast. Each finished bronze is hand-patinated, creating a rich russet-brown surface that responds beautifully to light. The pear is a familiar and generous form, associated with abundance, nourishment, balance and longevity. Its simplicity gives the sculpture an immediate warmth, while the refinement of the surface and form rewards closer attention. Suitable for both interior and exterior placement, Pear is available from intimate editions to larger garden and public scale works.
