Released in 2020 as part of a four-part mini-collection designed to celebrate the “dazzling night time scenery of Ginza”, the SARW052 wasn’t just a JDM release - it was only available for sale in the seven authorised Seiko dealers found in Ginza. The Dial. The dial has been scattered with twinkling specks that resemble a bokeh-style photograph of a starry sky. The copper-toned case not only perfectly matches the markers and hands, but also the stars themselves - and while the dial might appear black at first glance, it’s actually a rich brown with a subtle sunburst finish. The Movement. There’s little that needs to be said about the 6R21 automatic movement, other than that it offers the best gateway for anyone considering a watch with a Power Reserve Indicator. It’s a woefully underappreciated complication, yet one that has brought me immense joy over the years - whether it’s the immediate satisfaction of manually winding a watch and seeing the indicator respond, or witnessing the impact that getting up from my desk and going for a quick walk has on it.
