Kutani Style Kōgō — Wish Fulfilling Jewel with Gold Spiral Motif (Pre-loved)
This preloved kōgō features a warm orange-yellow crackle glaze (kannyū), with natural firing fractures creating a subtle, organic surface texture. A flowing gold spiral runs across the form, adding movement and continuity to the otherwise still ceramic body. Such kōgō are traditionally used in chanoyu and kōdō, especially during the winter ro season, to hold nerikō incense before it is placed into the charcoal hearth. The design references the Nyoihōju (Precious Jewel), a wish-fulfilling gem in Buddhist and East Asian tradition, symbolising fulfilled intention aligned with harmony and virtue rather than excess desire. The gold spiral further expresses infinity and uninterrupted flow, representing abundance that is continuous, renewing, and without end. In the tea room, the kōgō is chosen not only for function but for seasonal and symbolic resonance. This piece carries both warmth and stillness—holding incense while quietly expressing the idea of wish, flow, and enduring abundance. Approximate Size: 66 x 66 x 46
