JEAN PAUL GAULTIER Spring 1997 Vintage Pinstripe Jacket & Maxi Skirt Suit Size S-M

A very rare and exceptionally well-documented Jean Paul Gaultier set from Spring 1997, consisting of a long tailored jacket and matching maxi skirt. While striking when worn together as a full suit, both pieces also work beautifully as strong separates. Both garments feature the yellow pinstripes characteristic of the collection. The red jacket is contrasted by a black maxi skirt with the same linear detailing and a wide border at the hem, featuring an all-over Jean Paul Gaultier logo motif running around the entire skirt. The jacket is cut long, with lightly padded shoulders creating a sharp silhouette without appearing overly structured. The tailoring is particularly refined, finished with four fabric-covered front buttons and two front flap pockets. The floor-length skirt is designed in the manner of a wrap skirt with a high front slit, allowing for movement and a subtle reveal of the leg when worn. The diagonally striped high waist is constructed like a cummerbund and extends into an adjustable back belt with brass-tone metal hardware. There is an additional side zipper closure. Gaultier’s signature back loop detailing appears on both the jacket and the skirt. Made in Italy. A dramatic, structured set designed for a statuesque silhouette and an impactful entrance. Secondary fabric 95% silk, 5% other fibres. Unlined. CONDITION Both pieces appear hardly worn and are in excellent vintage condition. SIZE The jacket is tagged an Italian size 44 (DE 38, FR 40, US 8, UK 12, MEDIUM), the skirt an Italian size 42 (DE 36, FR 38, US 6, UK 10, SMALL).
