This Unbuffered Acid Free Tissue Paper will add extra protection to precious items that you need to store. Ideal for: wedding/christening gowns, communion dresses, silk, wool, linen, leather, jewellery, silver, collectibles. Specifications: Size: 500mm x 700mm per sheet Quantity: 480 sheets (full ream) Weight: 17gsm Machine Glazed Type: Unbuffered (no alkaline reserve - safe for delicate fabrics and dyed materials) Acid free tissue paper is the gold standard for wrapping and storing precious items - natural fibre clothing, silk, wool, linen and cotton, heirloom garments such as wedding gowns and veils, leather, jewellery, sterling silver, quilts and collectibles. Unlike regular tissue paper, it won't cause the yellowing or deterioration that acidic paper produces over time. This tissue paper is unbuffered, meaning it doesn't contain an added alkaline reserve — making it safe for use with delicate fabrics and dyed materials that could be damaged by buffered (alkaline) alternatives. Acid free tissue paper gets its name from its neutral pH (7) — achieved by treating the paper with a mild base such as calcium or magnesium bicarbonate to neutralise the natural acids in wood pulp. Paper that is made from wood-based pulp that has not had it's lignin content removed will be naturally slightly off-white (like Packing Paper) and will deteriorate over time. The production process is also very eco-friendly - waste water and by-products are recycled, less energy is used in drying and refining, and the paper itself is fully recyclable. A full ream of 480 sheets is ideal for anyone with a large volume of precious items to wrap and store long-term, including antique dealers, collectors, and archivists. For a christening gown or communion dress you may only need 50 sheets. For a large wedding dress, you may want the larger pack of 100 sheets. In the 1930s, William Barrow, an American chemist and librarian, uncovered the destructive power of acidic papers in libraries where he worked. He sought solutions to make the papers more protective. Acid Free Tissue is treated with a mild base (usually calcium or magnesium bicarbonate) to neutralise the natural acids occurring in wood-pulp. This means that Acid Free Tissue Paper (or Alkaline Paper, as it can be known as) has an approximate life expectancy of approximately 500 years. This gives huge preservation benefits to whatever it is used or wrapped in.
