This extraordinary four and half meter pori londong is a single panel with a mix of the important ikat motifs on it. Pori means ikat and londong means long cloth. It would be used for ceremonies such as a funeral procession where the cloth would be carried above the heads of family members. The central motif on this textile include; tosso balekoan which represents a niddy-noddy that is used for making skeins of yarn after being spun from cotton. Other motifs include; tonoling, the name of a compound near Rongkong to the north of the Karataun weaver group. This motif is a reminder of the importance of relationships. lelen sepu a betelnut container and tobo sepu, tobo means carving and sepu refers to the betelnut bag carried by women that contains the lime, betelnut and sirih leaf for chewing betel. It is polite to always offer betelnut by both the host and visitor. The tobo sepu motif is also found on the walls of the traditional rice barn This is a rare textile for its very detailed work and exquisite colour, gorgeous for wall hanging or used as throw.
