Ace of Spades (Revised Ed.)

Last August, we paused distribution of Ace of Spades after identifying that some of its illustrations did not meet the editorial standards we expect from our games. Regardless of original intent, we believed they needed to be addressed. And that is exactly what we have done. Over the following months, we conducted a thorough review of the game’s visual content, working with external cultural consultants with expertise in different historical and cultural contexts. This process helped us broaden our perspective and make better-informed decisions. As a result, six cards have been fully redesigned, preserving the game’s tone and identity while removing elements that could be perceived as inappropriate or insensitive. This period was not about making gestures, but about doing the work. We used the experience to strengthen our editorial processes and introduce concrete improvements that are now part of how we operate across all future projects: earlier review for games involving sensitive themes, clearer documentation of artistic decisions, and regular consultation with specialists when the subject matter requires it. These are not temporary or reactive measures. They reflect a more refined way of working that aligns with how DEVIR has always understood publishing: doing things properly, and correcting them when they fall short. The revised edition of Ace of Spades will be released this spring, alongside its first expansion, Call of the Zombie. This new edition will also include a brand-new, exclusive card as a small thank-you to everyone who showed patience and trust throughout this process. With this, we hope to move forward with what we've learned, and will focus on what we do best: publishing games with care, responsibility, and respect for our players.
