Vintage 1929 Grosset & Dunlap hardcover edition of Bambi by Felix Salten, the classic novel that later inspired the famous Disney film. This early American Grosset & Dunlap edition features the distinctive tan cloth binding with green stamped deer-head design on the front cover and spine. Published by Grosset & Dunlap by arrangement with Simon & Schuster. Translated by Whittaker Chambers, with illustrations by noted children’s book illustrator Kurt Wiese and a foreword by Nobel Prize-winning author John Galsworthy. The book retains its charming illustrated endpapers featuring deer silhouettes as well as black-and-white illustrations throughout. Copyright page states Copyright 1929 by Simon and Schuster, Inc. and “Made in the United States of America.” This is an early Grosset & Dunlap edition/reprint and is not being represented as the 1928 first American edition. Condition: Good vintage condition for its age. Tan cloth boards show age-related wear with minor rubbing, with some wear/fraying at the corners and spine ends.
