Large Late Period Faience Ushabti

Origin: Egypt Circa: Late Period, 664 BC to 332 BC Dimensions: 7.25" Height x 2" Width (18.4 cm x 5.2 cm) Medium: Faience This superb ushabti figurine is made out of a pristine turquoise-blue faience. The figure wears the tripartite wig outlining a well-modeled face which gives way to a faint smile. The short upper body slightly flares out leading down to the long and tapered legs. The ushabti is clad in a tight cloak from which the hands protrude with arms crossed at the chest. From the waist down the ushabti is decorated by two vertical bands/columns of hieroglyphs. These inscriptions usually reveal the ushabti's readiness and acknowledges its presence by saying such words as, "Here am I, the king's acquaintance.” The back side of the ushabti features a pillar which ends at the small square base on which it stands.
